Poland, 2012

n September 2012, Wilcrest Baptist Church, in Houston, Texas, sent a 10-member team to the city of Gdansk, Poland, to support a team from Avant in a church-planting project, Gospel Church Gdansk. Gdansk is a city with a rich and storied history, reaching back over a millennium. It was the location of the first German attack during World War II, as well as the birthplace of the Solidarity Movement, a powerful force which ultimately spurred the country to be one of the first former-Soviet-Bloc states to transition from Communism to Democracy.

he WBC team spent the first part of the week becoming better-acquainted with Polish culture, including visits to the Solidarity Museum and Westerplatte, as well as an around-the-city scavenger hunt. Later in the week the team distributed fliers and met with residents of the communities near the meeting place of Gospel Church Gdansk, in an effort to publicize a Gospel music concert that was held on Saturday, September 8, 2012. WBC team members collaborated with a local Gospel music choir to present the concert, an event which included a cookout, children's events like faith-bead bracelets, and a Gospel presentation.
